Our commitment to an inclusive digital experience for every learner.

Our Commitment

The National Academy of STEAM Education (NASE) is committed to ensuring that our website and digital learning materials are accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We believe that education is a universal right, and our digital presence should reflect that value.

We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

Targeting WCAG 2.1 Level AA Conformance

Implemented Accessibility Features

We have taken the following steps to improve accessibility across our website:

Keyboard Navigation

All interactive elements can be reached and activated using a keyboard alone, without requiring a mouse.

A "Skip to main content" link is available at the top of every page to bypass repetitive navigation.

Alternative Text

All meaningful images include descriptive alt text for screen reader users.

Colour Contrast

Text and background colour combinations meet or exceed the minimum 4.5:1 contrast ratio required by WCAG 2.1 AA.

Responsive Design

The site adapts to all screen sizes including mobile phones, tablets, and large desktop monitors.

Scalable Text

Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.

Semantic HTML

We use semantic HTML5 elements (headings, landmarks, lists) to support assistive technologies.

ARIA Labels

ARIA attributes are used where native HTML semantics are insufficient to convey meaning or state.

Known Limitations

While we work continuously toward full accessibility, some areas of the Site may not yet fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards. Known limitations include:

  • Some older PDF resources may not be fully tagged for screen readers. We are progressively updating these documents.
  • Embedded third-party video content (e.g., YouTube) may have limited captioning on certain videos. We encourage viewing through YouTube's own accessibility controls.
  • The AI chatbot's real-time streaming responses may present challenges for certain screen reader configurations. We are actively investigating improvements.

We are actively working to remediate all known barriers and appreciate your patience.

Assistive Technology Compatibility

Our website is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:

  • Screen readers: NVDA (Windows), VoiceOver (macOS/iOS), TalkBack (Android)
  • Screen magnification tools (e.g., ZoomText, Windows Magnifier)
  • Voice recognition software (e.g., Dragon NaturallySpeaking)
  • Switch access and keyboard-only navigation

We recommend using the latest version of your browser and assistive technology for the best experience.

Third-Party Content

Some content on our Site is provided by third parties (e.g., embedded maps, video players, payment processors). While we encourage these providers to meet accessibility standards, we cannot fully control or guarantee the accessibility of third-party content.

Ongoing Efforts

Accessibility is an ongoing process at NASE. Our efforts include:

  • Regular accessibility audits using automated tools (Axe, Lighthouse) and manual testing.
  • Involving users with disabilities in usability feedback.
  • Training our content and development team on accessibility best practices.
  • Incorporating accessibility requirements into our design and development workflows from the outset.
